Research interests in global and international health, health systems and transition in health, double burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases, malaria, TB, HIV, diabetes, and their interactions and impact, including long-term on mother and child health. Specialist in tropical medicine and in infectious diseases. Supervised more than 50 PhD's and 150 master's students, many from low- and middle-income countries. Capacity building and research collaboration with Tanzania since 1992 and with India since 2002. Running courses and teaching in global and international health and tropical medicine at pre- and postgraduate level in Copenhagen and abroad. Former board member, World Diabetes Foundation. Founder of MSc in International Health and MSc in Global Health, University of Copenhagen. Published more than 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
