About the Course

This course familiarizes you with standards and policies of the electric utility industry, and provides you with basic vocabulary used in the business. It introduces the electric power system, from generation of the electricity all the way to the wall plug. You will learn about the segments of the system, and common components like power cables and transformers. This course is for individuals considering a career in the energy field (who have a high school diploma, at minimum, and basic knowledge of mathematics), and existing energy sector employees with less than three years of experience who have not completed similar training and would benefit from a course of foundational industry concepts. The course is a combination of online lectures, videos, readings and discussions. This is the first course in the Energy Production, Distribution & Safety specialization that explores various facets of the power sector, and features a culminating project involving creation of a roadmap to achieve a self-established, energy-related professional goal. To learn more about the specialization, check out a video overview at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yh9qIYiUDk....

It was an interesting course, learned a lot of concepts which I haven't heard of earlier with regards to Influencing People in the corporate world. Overall it has been a great learning experience.

Not worth the time or the money. Course syllabus breaks down each module by number of hours it will take to complete. However, the individual break down per lesson within those modules significantly inflates the amount of time spent on certain aspects of the lesson. For example, Module 1 has roughly 29 minutes of in-course video compared to the listed 3 hours and 10 minutes allocated to the Self-Checks and the Module Assignment. The average Self-Check has two multiple choice questions and is listed as taking 30 minutes to complete, none of which took more than 5 and that includes mistakes/retries to get a 100%. The 30 minute assignment at the end of the Module was a 10 question test that took a maximum of ten minutes to complete. In total, out of the roughly 4 hours listed to complete Module 1, only 1 hour was needed. Which is how I was able to complete the entire course in less than a day with ease. Additionally, the quality of videos in this course are neither worth the time nor worth the money. The main focus of this course are 2-8 minute videos in which a man speaks directly at a camera (obviously reading off of a script) in a very monotone voice with zero interaction to material or anything related to what he is speaking about. If a student chose to download the transcripts and forgo watching the videos, there would be no information or understanding lost. Also, within the Resources section for each Module, the course relies heavily on YouTube videos, quite a few of which are no longer available. This is officially my last Coursera product. I will no longer waste my time on this platform. YouTube channels like Engineering Mindset and Practical Engineering are infinitely more engaging, well put together, informative, and free.

Too general, too shallow, not interesting, too short, boring presentation and graphics. In short- I didn't like it.
