Very well laid out. I learned so much and have become so passionate about this subject. Thank you for offering this course for free.

The Holodomor, one of the major tragedies of the twentieth century, became the subject of serious study only since the fall of the USSR. In this course you will explore recent research through the prisms of colonialism, empire, genocide, famine and food security, (dis)information dissemination, and Ukrainian-Russian relations. Famine as Genocide in the 20th Century: The Case of the Holodomor makes the case that the Holodomor is crucial to understanding Ukrainian, Soviet, European, and world history, as well as current events. This course was developed by the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium, a project of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta, with the generous support of the Helen and Paul Baszucki Family and the Temerty Foundation.

This course was truly a meaningful learning experience. I loved that not only were facts and statistics used, but also art, poetry, videos, and eyewitness accounts. I think that anyone who teaches a course on genocide, or anyone who is interested in imperial famines, or in the history of Ukraine , would benefit greatly from taking this course. Top quality research and professional, highly polished presentation. Also, the course is interactive in nature, so there is no passive learning here - it is a dynamic and method of familiarizing oneself with the Holodomor. Superb.
I appreciate the time and care that went into this comprehensive and well researched course. We need more Holodomor awareness and this course will no doubt help spread the word. Understanding the Holodomor continues to be highly relevant not only for understanding our history but also addressing ongoing denial of its existence and contextualizing the current invasion. I love the concluding line: "by taking this course...you've taken a stand against the denial of history and erasure of memory."
When I was young, studying in England in 1981-2, in an academic library I found a thesis upon the Holodomor. It was enough to whet my appetite for more information. This course has been a fabulous resource for more in-depth information, providing links to research and knowledge documented since the 1980s.
This is a very important and informative course that spreads the word about a topic not widely known outside of the Ukrainian diaspora. By studying the Holodomor, one can better understand the current struggles and determination of the Ukrainian people.
Thank you for this comprehensive course. The topic was quite heavy at times and I had to take a breather. My two uncles perished in the Holodomor. They were just 4 or 5. My father could not remember their ages.Lily
